Administrative Support Grants - awarded January 21, 2010
Twin Ports Wind Orchestra - Duluth ($4,000) Twin Ports Wind Orchestra will use this grant to establish and pay for the administrative positions of General Operations Manager, Equipment and Facilities Manager, and Personnel Manager/Librarian.
Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra - Duluth ($4,000) Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra will use this grant to conduct administrative staff and board training and contract with a bookkeeper and a grant writer for the purpose of stabilizing and strengthening the organization.
Renegade Theatre Company - Duluth ($4,000) Renegade Theatre Company will use this grant to help fund the part-time salary of their new Director of Development.
Grand Marais Arts, Inc. - Grand Marais ($4,000) Grand Marais Arts, Inc. will use this grant to increase the hours of their part-time staff person to allow the administrator more time to focus on strategic planning for marketing and programming.
MacRostie Art Center - Grand Rapids ($4,000) MacRostie Art Center will use this grant to implement a facility update including studio maintenance and small capital updates.
Arts on Superior - Two Harbors ($4,000) Arts on Superior will use this grant to complete the paperwork and to file for their 501(c)3 federal and state non-profit status as an arts organization serving Lake and St. Louis counties in northeastern Minnesota.
Jaques Art Center - Aitkin ($4,000) Jaques Art Center will use this grant to hire a board consultant, hire a part-time Volunteer Coordinator, to acquire a laptop computer, and pay for professional development of staff.

Poetry Harbor - Duluth ($6,000) Poetry Harbor will use this grant to assist in producing On Native Soil, a series of three poetry performances throughout the Arrowhead Region.
Grand Marais Playhouse ($6,000) Grand Marais Playhouse will use this grant to assist in producing Cole Porter's You Never Know from July 29 to August 8, 2010.
Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra - Duluth ($6,000) Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra will use this grant to present a summer 2010 concert featuring Baroque music performed by Duluth native Emily Van Evera, internationally acclaimed soprano.
MacRostie Art Center - Grand Rapids ($3,110) MacRostie Art Center will use this grant to produce its 18th Annual Juried Exhibition during the month of August, 2010.
Twin Ports Wind Orchestra - Duluth ($5,182) Twin Ports Wind Orchestra will use this grant to commission work for performance by the orchestra to honor the life of Ruth Dodge, a lifelong Duluth musician and educator.
Arrowhead Chorale - Duluth ($1,415) Arrowhead Chorale will use this grant to produce "Muses, Music and Memories" a concert series of music selections entwined with stories told by Elizabeth Nordell on May 7 and 8, 2010.
Renegade Theater Company - Duluth ($6,000) Renegade Theater Company will use this grant to work in collaboration with the local rock group Cars & Trucks to present The Who's Tommy from June 3 to 5, 10 to 12, and 17 to 19, 2010, at the Teatro Zuccone in Duluth.
Ely Greenstone Public Art - Ely ($6,000) Ely Greenstone Public Art will use this grant to hold a children's art camp and juried art show in July, 2010.
Lake Superior Suzuki Talent Education Program - Duluth ($5,000) Lake Superior Suzuki Talent Education Program will use this grant to host a public Fall Festival on November 5 and 6, 2010, in Duluth.
The College of St. Scholastica - Duluth ($6,000) The College of St. Scholastica will use this grant to host a public performance by the Minneapolis dance ensemble Buckets and Tap Shoes on November 12, 2010.
Edge of the Wilderness Community Center - Bigfork ($2,000) Edge of the Wilderness Community Center will use this grant to produce an exhibit of the work of Fargo glassblower Jon Offutt, from September 9 through Ocotber 2 with glass blowing demonstrations on September 10 and 11, 2010.
Itasca Community Chorus - Grand Rapids ($5,000) Itasca Community Chorus will use this grant to produce two concerts with a string orchestra and student art slide show in December, 2010, and April, 2011.
Esko Community Education - Esko ($6,000) Esko Community Education in collaboration with Carlton County Community Education will bring Prairie Fire Children's Theatre to Barnum High School in late July and to Cloquet in August, 2010, to conduct two weeks of theatrical experiences for youth.
Duluth Children's Museum - Duluth ($3,423) Duluth Children's Museum will use this grant to present multi-instrumentalist Todd Green in concert and four educational programs.
Grand Marais Arts, Inc. - Grand Marais ($5,990) Grand Marais Arts, Inc. will use this grant to produce an expanded plein air competition and exhibition in the Fall, 2010.
Common Language - Duluth ($4,275) Common Language will use this grant to produce the North Shore Iron Pour and a new public art project for Bob Dylan Way/Michigan Street in Duluth.
City of International Falls - International Falls ($6,000) The City of International Falls will use this grant to commission a mural at the old Borderland Theatre site in the main street district of International Falls.
Grand Marais Playhouse - Grand Marais ($5,720) Grand Marais Playhouse will use this grant to produce Dinner with Friends by Donald Margulies from October 14 to 17 and 21 to 24, 2010.
Art Project Grants - awarded September 17, 2009
Spirit Lake Poetry Series - Duluth ($3,500) Spirit Lake Poetry Series will use this grant to assist in producing a reading series for 2009 - 2010 featuring regionally and nationally recognized writers, as well as an open reading.
Great River Strings - Aitkin ($2,760) Great River Strings will use this grant to assist in presenting two concerts titled "Tis The Season" in Aitkin on November 14, 2009, and in Onamia, November 15, 2009.
Itasca Orchestra and Strings Program - Grand Rapids ($990) Itasca Orchestra and Strings Program will use this grant to assist in presenting pianist Alexander Sandor's performance of Piano Concert No. 3 by Sergei Rachmaninoff with the Itasca Symphony Orchestra on November 21, 2009.
Mesabi Community Orchestra - Virginia ($2,640) The Mesabi Community Orchestra will use this grant to assist in presenting their 32nd season Classical Concert featuring Dr. Carl Passal, classical guitarist and cellist, on March 26, 27 and 28, 2010, in three Iron Range Communities.
The College of St. Scholastica - Duluth ($3,500) The College of St. Scholastica will use this grant to assist in presenting a fall performance of French Baroque dance, featuring Caroline Copeland and Carlos Fittante of the New York Baroque Dance Company, accompanied by the Center for Early Music Orchestra, as well as a winter concert by the Center for Early Music Orchestra featuring symphonies by Haydn and Mozart.
Renegade Comedy Theatre - Duluth ($3,500) The Renegade Comedy Theatre will use this grant to assist in presenting The Woman in Black, a stage adaptation of Susan Hill's classic ghost story by Stephen Mallatratt, on October 15 to 17, 22 to 24 and 29 to 31 at the Teatro Zucccone in Duluth.
Colder by the Lake - Duluth ($3,500) Colder by the Lake will use this grant to assist in the production of an original comedy dealing with aging and dementia entitlted Older by the Lake, at Teatro Zuccone in Duluth, March 11-14, 17-20.
Lake Superior Youth Chorus - Duluth ($3,500) The Lake Superior Youth Chorus will use this grant to perform a concert directed by Dr. Marion Doherty Hayden, featuring Classical and Celtic music accompanied by the group, McInnis' Kitchen, in March, 2010.
Matinee Musicale - Duluth ($3,500) Matinee Musicale will use this grant to present a fall series of their 110th season of concerts, featuring acclaimed pianist Alon Goldstein in October and award-winning soprano Sasha Cooke in November, 2009.
Duluth Festival Opera - Duluth ($3,500) Duluth Festival Opera will use this grant to present an operatic concert called Three Tenors Again! at the Marshall School Auditorium on October 29, 2009.
Sacred Heart Music Center - Duluth ($3,500) Sacred Heart Music Center will use this grant to present a performance by the Steeles, a performance by Billy McLaughlin and a performance by Michael Barone with the Arrowhead Chorale and Native American Drummers.
North Shore Music Association - Grand Marais ($1,800) The North Shore Music Association will use this grant to present Peter Ostronshko at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts on January 30, 2010.
Northern Lights Music Festival - Aurora ($3,500) Northern Lights Music Festival will use this grant to present a fully staged version of Carmina Burana and a Schumann/Chopin Festival within the Northern Lights Music Festival for 2010.

Northland Art Society - International Falls ($2,000) The Northland Art Society will use this grant to produce a four day abstract watercolor workshop with Karen Knutson, October 4 to 7, 2010, for International Falls area artists followed by a community art show utilizing artwork produced during the workshop.
Ely ArtWalk - Ely ($2,000) The Ely ArtWalk will use this grant to produce their annual 11 day event featuring over 600 pieces of art, created by more than 150 local artists, displayed in store windows during the Ely Winter Festival, February 4 to 14, 2010.
Northshore Chamber Society - Two Harbors ($2,000) The Northshore Chamber Society will use this grant to produce four Lake County concerts in February, June and August of 2010 with professional musicians from across Minnesota.
Spirit Lake Poetry Series - Duluth ($725) Spirit Lake Poetry Series will use this grant to produce outreach poetry readings in Grand Rapids and Grand Marais in March and April of 2010.
Ely Winter Festival - Ely ($2,000) Ely Winter Festival will use this grant to produce the Snow Sculpture Symposium which features the carving of snow sculptures by local, regional and international artists in Whiteside Park in Ely from February 4 to 14, 2010.
Crescendo Youth Orchestra - Hibbing ($930) Crescendo Youth Orchestra will use this grant to take members of the youth orchestra to a Minnesota Orchestra concert in the Twin Cities on May 15, 2010.
Icebox Radio Theater - International Falls ($2,000) Icebox Radio Theater will use this grant to improve the quality of its audio theater programs by paying artists and establishing a studio "home" for the 2009-2010 podcast season.
